The Hidden Realm of the Senses (2021), 12.5 min, 16mm , digital and video

IIn “The Hidden Realm of the Senses” I repurpose Diners and Jewish delicatessens as a meeting ground for investigating intergenerational trauma, specifically among Diasporic Jews. Intercutting scenes from Anton Chekov’s “The Cherry Orchard” - read and performed inside of delicatessens - with interviews with my father (a psychoanalyst and first generation German-American whose parents evaded capture during the Holocaust), the film unpacks the signifiers and significance of a bygone era.
